A pause from the culture of immediacy and work towards reconnection through different paths

THE REASON

In today’s fast-paced world, we’re constantly bombarded with notifications, social media updates, and an endless stream of digital information. Our smartphones have become an extension of our bodies, and we often find ourselves scrolling mindlessly through our screens, unaware of the world around us. Add to that, short-form media are claiming larger portions of our days while decreasing our attention spans. While technology has undoubtedly brought us closer in many ways, it has also distanced us from some of the most important aspects of life.

 THE PROJECT

In the midst of that digital chaos, we embarked on a unique journey – «Disconnect to Connect.» This week-long youth exchange program, which took place on the island of Fuerteventura, sought to break free from the chains of constant connectivity.

It offered an opportunity to temporarily set aside our digital devices and immerse ourselves in the beauty of personal reflection, social interaction, and nature’s embrace.

OUTCOMES

«Disconnect to Connect» brought together 25 participants from five different countries: Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Cyprus.

The participants were motivated young people who agreed to disconnect from the digital world for one week, aiming to reflect on their relationship with technology and social media. They also demonstrated interest in exploring cultural and outdoor activities, and committed to taking part in dissemination activities upon returning to their local communities.

Participant's comments

This experience was more than a digital detox for me. It really gave me some answers and helped me overcame not only my phone but other things that were holding me back. It was an amazing experience. Thank you so much for everything.

Project definitely helped me understand the relationship with technology and digital devices because I thought I couldn’t disconnect from digital but I did it in much more extent that I though I would. We should definitely do this much often ir our everyday.

Everything was great. Organizers did their best to make us feel good and motivated. Workshops were very useful and outdoor activities helped us learn more of identity of this place and the island.
